As long as you delete the email without opening the attachment, rest assured that your PC is safe from the malware. The virus is found in the text files and other files attached in the message of the mail. So opening the email is not an issue. The risk comes when you click on the link provided by the email. In most cases, the link will bring you to sites that automatically download viruses to your. So before you open anything on your email because of excitement, verify if the link of the site is authentic. If you know the official website, visit it and compare the URL of the sites and also verify if the message does not contain any threat. It is very important that you identify spammers from real endorsers, because once the attachments are opened, the virus could infect your PC.

For sure your pC will be infected with virus once you open it. This is why there are email spam filter tools available. These tools were created to make sure that the emails that would reach your mailboxes are not from suspicious senders who would put deliberately place a malware on the email. Some viruses are probably powerful enough to run automatically once an email is opened.

Abuse Report:
Any virus poses great danger to your computer. It slows down your PC or worse, makes it dysfunctional. Aside from visiting sites infected with the virus, your PC can be infected by it if you open an attachment infected with a virus or if you follow the link to a site infected with malware. I don't think opening an email alone would get your computer infected with the malware. For the virus to infiltrate and run freely on your system, you have to open the attachment or follow certain links. The message in the email does not contain malware so it's alright to open an email as long as you don't click anything that would bring you to suspicious websites.

The virus can infiltrate your PC through the emails provided. So if you open the mails, the malware would be installed automatically. This is possible because some malware are found in the message of the email itself. Because of this, you have to enable the spam filter of your account. Through this filter, you will be warned if an email is coming from a suspicious sender or if the email itself is suspicious.
