Aren't palm-readings online just a scam?
What I Question
Aren't palm-readings online just a scam? Is there a big difference between online reading and the face-to-face kind?

While palm reading is not infallible, who are we to say that everything is a hoax? If out of ten predictions in an online session, six turned out to be false, what about the other four? It is so easy to claim "coincidence," but then again, some philosophers in the past have asserted that in this universe, there is no such thing as a coincidence. It is not that different from the issue of UFOs. There must be hundreds (thousands even) of videos/pictures of unexplained flying things. Yes, so many have been proven to be elaborate fakes. Still, it is extremely logical to assume that at least a few of these hundreds of shots were honest shots of something inexplicable, as opposed to the fabrications.

It is so hard to believe that the formation of our palms' lines has a direct bearing on our future, or our characteristics. It is far easier to believe in tarot cards than in this line of activity. I do not mind the free readings from the other sites, at least, it costs me nothing.

No, they are the real thing. Online palm readers are the same people who do palm reading in person. A few of these sites give free reading. What about those sites that charge for the services? How come they are staying on if they are just a hoax? It is not true that webmasters can be completely hidden identities because of the nature of the Net. URLs can be tracked, ISPs can be tracked, even the location of a particular computer can be tracked. Surely, the authorities should have done something about these sites if they were all charging for bogus services, right? Besides, a prediction that did not come to pass is not equivalent to a scam. The prediction could still be there, waiting to happen in the distant future.

Even direct palm reading for me is not to be trusted. In many ways, it can be considered a scam by those who want to earn a living through false divination. Whether face-to-face or online, palm readings accomplish nothing but give very general possibilities in life. When the psychic says, "you would arrive at a crossroads where you would need the advice of somebody very close to you," it may seem true to you. But if you analyze the statement bit by bit, you would see that it is composed of both generalities and probabilities. If you are an adult, then it is almost a sure thing that there would be a hard decision to make sometime in the future, and that it is probable that you'll seek the opinion of a family member or close friend. Even in online reading, you would not get a line saying, "at exactly 3 pm this coming Sunday, your car will collide with another. Or, "the owner of the other car would be your future wife".
