Is it true that antiperspirants can cause breast cancer? I received an email warning on this.

I talked to my lady doctor about this, and she didn't really have much to say on this issue except that it still hasn't been proven. She only advised me to make sure that I keep my body clean at all times. If you use antiperspirants, might as well treat it like a make-up. Wash it off every night. Also, my personal opinion is that we really should be careful about what we put on our body, make-up or otherwise. Right now, I prefer to go organic. Everything we need is in nature, anyway.

Do not believe everything you read, dear. Most breast cancers do develop near the area of the armpit but there really isn't any scientific correlation between antiperspirants or deodorants and breast cancer. Not even if it gets into your skin after you shave. The most that can happen is that you'll get an infection, which is terrible but not as bad as cancer. Also, if this were true, shouldn't men also get it? Think about it. Some of them also use antiperspirants as well as shave or wax. So it must be something else causing it.

Abuse Report:
People sometimes toy around with their bodies too much. Antiperspirants stop us from sweating and sweating is a natural process that our body undergoes. Antiperspirants use aluminum- based products known to cause hormonal effects that promote the growth of breast cancer cells. Now, the fact that there is no published scientific finding about it does not mean a thing. A study in 2003 did see a relationship. Here, they learned that the degree of antiperspirant/deodorant usage and shaving is associated with an earlier age of breast cancer diagnosis. Companies can cover up things anytime they want. I do believe, however, that we as consumers should be more careful in this regard.

Come on! If this were true then a huge portion of the female population will be gone by now. Based on what I know, the medical history of our family tree has a great role in determining our risks of developing cancer, or any disease for that matter. Our individual construction, genetic make-up or hormones, also play a great part. Taking of pills can cause changes in our hormones, for one. Not antiperspirants. Otherwise, there would be too many unexplained variables. This is probably why scientific findings also have not seen any significant correlation between the two. Without any facts supporting it, it's just a myth.
